In a recent meeting with one of my clients, they asked me to review an area of operation that was causing them considerable concern. They were
staging truck load shipments of pallets in a zone near their docks, but due to increasing volume, this area quickly became congested. Restricted to only being able to bulk stack loads two high due to the flammable nature of the products, and with a ceiling height of 30’, this left a lot of wasted storage space. How could we increase the pallet storage capacity and remain compliant with their insurance regulations?
The clear answer was RadioshuttleTM, an economic, deep lane, high density pallet storage solution that maintains selectivity, increases operational efficiency, and allows for maximum use of warehouse space. It allows companies to utilize the full height of their facility, can work in all temperature zones, and can be installed in virtually any warehouse.
It is a semi-automated system consisting of high-density racking that is accessed by a remote-controlled, battery-powered pallet shuttle. The pallet shuttle rides a specially-designed rail just below the pallet storage rails. It lifts the pallet up an inch or so, and either deposits it into the next available storage slot for put away, or retrieves that next pallet and brings it to the aisle position for removal. Shuttles are moved to various rail levels, typically by Reach or Counterbalanced Lift Trucks. Once the shuttle is remotely dispatched, the forklift operator can leave to access another pallet load, dramatically increasing throughput.
