The PellegrinoTM, formerly known as the Seismic Base Isolation System, is an effective solution to minimizing the seismic energy exerted on a storage rack system during an earthquake. Designed to fit any pallet rack system, The Pellegrino base isolation unit is positioned under the upright frame and is anchored to the floor. The isolator allows the rack to move transversely relative to the floor during the earthquake. A storage rack system with base isolators is designed to withstand an earthquake 25% more intense than the Northridge or Loma Prieta earthquakes that reached magnitudes of
6.7 and 6.9 on the Richter scale.
Winner of first place honors for "Excellence for Innovation" in the earthquake mitigation category at the National Earthquake Conference, the Pellegrino isolator has proven to dissipate 85% of the seismic energy exerted on a rack system during an earthquake. Ridg-U-Rak developed this system in accordance with performance levels outlined in FEMA 460 Seismic Considerations for Steel Racks Located in Areas Accessible to the Public. These guidelines are for facilities using steel rack systems in retail environments where public safety is a concern during a seismic event.
The Pellegrino SEISMIC Base Isolation System:
- Is ideal for any warehouse storage applications like distribution centers, warehouse clubs, and bigbox retailer stores in high seismic design areas
- Does not impede stocking or daily operations
- Can be moved during reconfiguration of the rack system.
- Is a one-time investment to mitigate the risk of product loss and personal injury during an earthquake
- Significantly reduces risk of loss for high-value inventory
