Here at Abel Womack, we strive to recruit and select the best people in the marketplace to service our customers. Why? Because our customers deserve the best! Finding the right match for the organization and those we serve requires significant investment in time and resources. One of the tools that we use to predict success in a position is called Predictive Index (PI).
The PI behavioral tool is a science-based assessment that provides managers with accurate, actionable data quantifying the unique motivational needs and behavioral drives of prospective employees. According to PI Worldwide, there are more than 2 million assessments taken each year.
While the PI assessment does not screen for KSA’s (knowledge, skills and abilities needed for success in the position), it does tell a lot about the behaviors and motivations of an individual seeking a position with us. In a matter of 2-5 minutes, the assessment results can be graphically displayed, with a full report providing insight to hiring managers about the candidate’s drive, among other things.
The four “drives” measured in PI include Dominance (drive for ownership and control); Extroversion (drive for social interaction); Patience (drive for stability); and Formality (drive for conformity). The PI also predicts how much emotion will factor into a candidate’s decision-making.
A separate assessment called the JOB PRO can also be developed for a particular position, acting as a benchmark by which to compare individual PI assessment results. Different jobs have very different graphical views when looking at behaviors and motivations, so it’s important to know what you are looking for ahead of time. For example, take a look at a sales PI profile compared to an accountant’s profile shown below. During the selection process, when an individual’s assessment matches the JOB PRO for that position, it is more likely the individual will be successful in the position. Of course, you still have to interview thoroughly for the KSAs I mentioned above.
There is much more to the PI than what I have mentioned here – I could go on and on for days! But if you would like to know more, I encourage you to visit the PI Worldwide website, or comment here and we can connect you with our local team of experts. The bottom line is YOU are the reason we invest so much in our selection process. We have to find and invest in the right people to continue to show you “the difference.”
I’m interested in learning about other tools successfully being used in the hiring process. Please share below.
