The Raymond Corporation has been recognized with an IndustryWeek 2014 Best Plant Award for the Greene, New York, plant and headquarters. Celebrating its 25th year of the Best Plants Award, IndustryWeek looks to recognize outstanding companies across North America that deliver manufacturing excellence through leading-edge efforts to increase competitiveness, enhance customer satisfaction and create stimulating and rewarding work environments. The program’s additional purpose is to encourage other manufacturing managers and work teams to emulate the honorees by adopting world-class practices, technologies and improvement strategies. “We are proud to be recognized for our efforts in continuous improvement of producing world class lift trucks for our customers’ material handling needs,” says Michael Field, president of operations and engineering at Raymond. “It has been part of our more-than-90-year history to always innovate and apply world-class practices, such as the Toyota Production System (TPS), to improve our manufacturing capabilities. We plan to continue to evolve our approach to manufacturing and materials handling optimization through the use of automation and telematics solutions that solve enterprise-level improvement challenges.” “The IndustryWeek Best Plants Award is great recognition for all the members here at the facility in Greene,” says Richard Harrington, vice president of U.S. manufacturing at Raymond. “The improvement in quality has been an evolutionary journey due to the application of the Toyota Production System (TPS). This system is not an event, rather a culture and thought process approach with visual management tools to gauge progress. Our team has embraced this method, meeting every challenge faced with a desire to achieve long-term excellence and produce the best product possible for our customers.” Of the 14 finalists named, Raymond is one of six companies that has been recognized as an IndustryWeek 2014 Best Plant winner.
