Automated guided vehicles, or AGVs, are all the buzz these days. They are no longer just something that you see at an industry trade show as a view into the future. They are in the real world, and businesses that utilize them are thriving. The ROI is excellent, and in a tight labor market, it allows you to put your team members on tasks that they are better suited for. Why have an employee haul trash or dunnage across a plant when an AGV can do it? Why not utilize an AGV to stage the morning outgoing freight before your day shift even clocks in?
Address today’s labor shortages
There is no magic wand to make your warehouse run 24/7 with no lights or employees. However, there are things that can be done to streamline your operation and allow you to continue to adapt and pivot your business. Just remember that identifying what to automate can be overwhelming. But with proper implementation, you can and will increase production and accuracy while addressing your labor demands. First and foremost, you need to find a partner to work with you on the best solutions and processes for each application. Abel Womack and The Raymond Corporation want to prove that we are the partner you seek. Our AGVs are reliable, efficient, and easy to operate.
Integrate automated solutions
Raymond has four AGV models designed for several functions and works with other systems like conveyors, pallet building robotics, and Warehouse Management Systems. They consist of two tow tractor models, an automated pallet truck, and an automated pallet stacker. Each can handle several functions and is easily programmed for new or changing routes. Tow tractors can pull carts full of kitting materials to workstations or pick up carts that are either empty or full of trash and bring them to a designated area. Carts have almost infinite options available and can be customized for any application. Meanwhile, the stacker can put away or pick up pallets up to 72” and run them to staging areas or P&D stations. The pallet truck will transfer pallets to and from staging areas.
Optimize your operations
AGVs are not the only solution out there and may not be the correct solution for you. Abel Womack wants to show you the options and help you decide the best solution for your business. The fancy, expensive option may not be the one for you… or maybe it is. Having it all on the table makes it easier to make an educated decision. AGVs, unlike a conveyor system, can be constantly taught new routes in a matter of a few minutes. They evolve with your facility and products. New carts can always be added to a tow tractor that may change its entire function at a minimal expense.
Find the right solution
The future of material handling is here, and as long as you plan ahead, there is plenty of room to allow it to adapt to your corporate future. Not only is it important to think outside the box, but it is also important not to get boxed into a system that needs to be scrapped or overhauled in just a few years. Call an expert like Abel Womack to come in and look at some options. There is no cost to take a peek, and the chances are very good that we can help.
