The National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) is a voluntary standard that provides a comparison of products moving via motor carrier in interstate, intrastate and foreign commerce. On Monday, September 8, the Commodity Classification Standards Board (CCSB) will conduct a public meeting to consider proposals for amending the NMFC as listed in CCSB Docket 2014-3 regarding the reclassification of pallet, storage or warehouse racks or parts or sections thereof.
The docket and all facts, data and evidence of record relating to the proposal are available at Go to "NMFC" on the navigation bar, click "Public Docket Files" and then click "2014-3."
The proposal could increase the delivery cost of many storage rack installations. The CCSB allows visitors to submit information relating to the transportation characteristics - density, handling, storability and liability - of the products involved or relevant to packaging materials or methods in connection with proposed packaging amendments. This information should include any underlying studies, supporting data or other facts that you deem pertinent. Professionals from the storage rack industry are encouraged to share their input.
The information can be mailed, emailed or faxed to the CCSB. Written submissions will be included in the public docket file and posted to the CCSB website and anybody who submits a statement or who attends the meeting in connection with a proposal will be registered as a party of record to that proposals.
The meeting will be held at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town Hotel, 1767 King Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314 at 2:00 ET on September 8. The hotel’s telephone number is 703-837-0440.
