First introduced in the late 1800s, conveyor belts have since been accepted as vital manufacturing technology. Implemented in countless factories, warehouses, and processing plants, this technology has not only helped to shape the manufacturing industry but helped it to grow and prosper by increasing employee efficiency and decreasing the time and energy needed to transport goods and products. Recent innovations in conveyor technology, such as the omnidirectional conveyor, have introduced improved functionality and even greater conveying capabilities to the manufacturing industry. Omnidirectional conveyors utilize free-spinning rollers (or wheels) and integrated automation controls, allowing for controlled object movement in all directions and orientations. The integration of automation and Internet of Things (IoT) enables a user to individually and selectively program each roller, controlling object rotation and alignment, belt merges and transfers, and sorting. This enhanced control over object movement can be applied to both individual objects and multiple objects simultaneously, creating more efficient and effective manufacturing lines. With potential applications in conveying, positioning, and material handling, employed in existing and future warehouses, factories, and assembly lines, the omnidirectional conveyor is a gamechanger in the industry.
