Since storage density is always a goal in factories and warehouses, some applications justify mounting shelving on wheels and permitting product to be stored without picking aisles.

 

When an item needs to be accessed, an aisle is created by rolling the shelving along a track and creating the required aisle. This approach is used for slow moving items that only need to be accessed occasionally, since this approach considerably slows the picking process.
