Abel Womack Receives the Compassionate Employer Award

In 2006, Sandy Reed, an employee in Abel Womack’s Wallingford, CT office, tragically lost her son in an automobile accident. During that difficult time, Abel Womack decided to provide support for Sandy and her family.   Unbeknownst to the company, Sandy contacted a national non-profit bereavement agency called “The Compassionate Friends” to tell them about Abel Womack’s support.

On March 3, 2008, Abel Womack was honored as one of a handful of companies that annually receive their organization’s Compassionate Employer award.

“It’s humbling to be honored for compassion, which should come naturally to all of us. It’s gratifying to once again show the kind of company we are and how we take care of each other. Witnessing a personal tragedy always makes us feel helpless and the gesture on the part of the company was an effort to do something that in a small way might lessen the pain.” said John Croce, President of Abel Womack.

The Compassionate Friends is a national nonprofit, self-help support organization which exists to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and to provide information to help others be supportive. The organization offers friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings.
